I grew up in the tiny town (pop. <2,000) of West Branch, Iowa. Boyhood home of Herbert Hoover. In many ways like Morehead: small, rural, 60 miles on the highway (see below) either direction to a good-sized city. But no “mountains”. And I didn’t grow up on a farm, so no questions about pigs or corn. I am the offspring of a teacher and an archivist. (Look it up. I had to when I was young.)

Do not be surprised to find here links to the kind of music & comedy, etc., that you would expect a middle-class, WASP, thirty-something scientist to like: shoes, Zumba, walking/jogging outdoors, shopping second-hand & antique stores, my nerdy kids, Monty Python, swing/Latin/tap dancing, volleyball, playing games, Almodovar movies, baking, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy , science fiction, James Bond movies, Weird Al Yankovic, Dire Straits, Aimee Mann, Suzanne Vega, Los Lobos, Dr. Demento, Elvis Costello or Presley, the blues, etc. Do not be fooled by an imitation Janelle.

At the top of my list:

·	Battlestar: Galactica. Sorry, Star Trek, but BG is awesome!

·	Doctor Who: Longest running sci-fi TV show in history, that’s all.

·	Star Trek in any and all of its incarnations. Yes, even the cartoon version.

·	Imminent return of World Cup soccer in summer 2010!!

·	Gardening, which I’ve taken up after realizing my new home had no landscaping.

·	Trips to Mexico ...deserve their own page.
