Professional Development Workshops:
I. Poetry in Whole Language Learning (K-12)
--Interactive uses of poetry across the curriculum
--Creative and interpretive reading of poetry
--Language analysis through poetry
--Exploration of the poetry writing process
--Generative ideas for collaborative & individual student writing
--Appropriate poetry for the assessment portfolio
--Synthesis of a list of features of poetic language that can be used to guide the writing and assessment of student poetry
--Discussion of meeting the challenge of professional development to prepare teachers to become comfortable with:a) guiding the generation of poetry and
b) adapting the KIRIS holistic rubric to assessing it
All workshops are derived from Program # 0985, originally approved by the Kentucky Department of Education Standards Advisory Council for the 1992-94 cycle. They can be offered separately or combined to create components of a three-, six-, nine-, or twleve-hour workshop.
