Some Ideas for Spreadsheets
Your assignment is to create your own
spreadsheet.
Think about some of the numerical data that you need to
manipulate.
Could a spreadsheet help you manipulate that data more easily?
Could
it allow you to ask “What if. . .” questions? Here are some ideas
for spreadsheets. You don’t have to use any of these ideas,
though.
You might have a better idea.
Create a spreadsheet that would allow the user . . .
- to compare the cost of flying, driving, taking a bus, or taking a
train
to and from some destination. Be sure to consider expenses such
as
food, lodging, gas, etc.
-
to keep track of daily caloric intake. Foods eaten daily,
calories/unit
food, quantities eaten, etc.
-
to convert from metric to English measures and/or vice versa.
-
to figure the daily, annual and lifetime cost of smoking a variable #
of
packs of cigarettes a day OR of drinking a variable number of vending
machine
pops a day OR . . .
-
to compare the cost of purchasing various computer systems.
-
to keep track of and figure the grades of a class of students.
-
to estimate income and expenses of attending college.
-
to compare the cost of commuting to the cost of living on campus.
Most spreadsheet software can make a chart or graph of your data.
If you know how to do this try it, and see if it makes your spreadsheet
more understandable and interesting.
